Bridesmaids located far and wide? Here's how to make it work

Your best friends are your best friends, right? And often in life you may not end up living just around the corner or in the same town, just as you did growing up. But how do you make it work when the person you want standing beside you when you say ‘I Do’ is on the other side of the world?

Here are our top tips for making it work…

1.Be Organised

When you've got things like time differences, postage times and flights to factor in...organisation is key. If you decide you want a whirlwind engagement and want to marry within two weeks, it's pretty unlikely that your best friend in Sydney will be able to make the trip. Factor in extra time wherever possible, i.e. We don't recommend that they book their flight for the day before the wedding!

2. Stay in Touch

Ah, the beauty of technology. Especially if some of your bridesmaids are close by, you don't want the one who is far away to feel left out. Organise any dress appointments around their waking or working hours and have them Skype in so that they can be part of the fun.

3. Impress with the Dress

As there are usually several months between choosing bridesmaids dresses and fittings, make sure you find out if they'll be back in the country any time soon so that they can try on or collect their dress while they are over. If that's not an option, have them take exact measurements and then use a reputable courier to send the dress over to them - tracked all the way! Then, do a little research online to help them find a great tailor to help get the perfect fit for the big day. Depending on the designer this might be unnecessary, once the dress is chosen check if there are any retailers where they live so that the dress can be purchased and fitted from their local bridal shop - easy peasy.
