Edinburgh International Airport

There are numerous direct scheduled flights to Edinburgh Airport from major airports, both in the UK and overseas. The airport is located 8 miles west of the city centre and there are reliable bus and taxi services available to take you to the city centre.  See below .......

Taxis

There is a taxi rank outside the main terminal building.  The journey into the city centre will take approx 20 minutes; this may take longer during the rush hour. Cost is approx £15 - £20.

Bus

There is a frequent bus service between Edinburgh Airport and the city centre, The airlink 100 bus has designated stops en route and will take around 25 minutes. Buses leave every 10 minutes at peak times and your journey time is approx 25 minutes and costs £3.50. There are more details and route maps on the Flybybus website.

Train Stations

Excellent rail links throughout the UK make the train a great way to get to Edinburgh.

There are two main stations in Edinburgh.  Waverley station is in the city centre and Haymarket Station is located at the west end.

By Car

Edinburgh is located at the heart of the Scottish motorway network making it quick and easy to get here by car.


Access from the south is via the A1 or the M6/M74/A702.
From the North, follow the M9 from Stirling or the M90 from Perth.From the West, the M8 links Glasgow and Edinburgh.

 

To give you some idea of approximate journey times, if you are travelling from England, you can get here from Birmingham in about 5.5 hours, from Manchester and York in about 4 hours, and the city is just 2.5 hours from Newcastle. If you are travelling from within Scotland, Edinburgh is only 3 hours from Inverness and just over 2 hours from Aberdeen.

Tram Works

A modern and efficient tram network is being created for Edinburgh and is scheduled for completion by 2011. Although there are various road closures in place, disruption is being kept to a minimum and Edinburgh is very much open for business as usual.
